Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Rounds ("Rounds", "we", "us") for the Rounds iPhone app and this website (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, starting a free trial, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service. Questions: [email protected].
Important: Rounds is an educational simulation, not a medical tool. Every patient in Rounds is fictional. Nothing in the Service is medical advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment recommendation, and nothing in it should be used to diagnose, treat, or make decisions about any real person, including yourself. Rounds is not responsible for any diagnosis, treatment, or other decision made about a real person, whether or not it was influenced by the Service. If you or someone else may have a medical emergency, call 911.
1. Educational use only; no medical advice
- Simulation only. Rounds lets you practice interviewing, examining, ordering tests for and diagnosing fictional patients. Cases, patient replies, exam findings, test results, grades, feedback, tips, flashcards and reference reading exist only to help you study.
- Not for real patients. You agree not to use the Service, or anything you learned or saw in it, as the basis for diagnosing, treating, triaging, prescribing for, or advising any real person. Real clinical decisions belong to licensed clinicians using their own judgment, current guidelines, and the patient in front of them.
- No clinician–patient relationship. Using the Service does not create a doctor–patient or any other professional relationship between you and Rounds or anyone else.
- Not a medical device. The Service is not intended to diagnose, cure, mitigate, treat or prevent any disease in anyone, and has not been reviewed or cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or any other regulator.
- Not your own health. Don't use Rounds to look into your own symptoms or anyone else's. Talk to a qualified health professional.
2. AI-generated content can be wrong
Patients, their replies, cases, grades, feedback and flashcards are written by artificial intelligence services (currently OpenAI and DeepSeek) through our servers. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, inconsistent between runs, or different from current practice guidelines, and a case may contain findings that don't fit together the way a real patient's would. Medicine changes, and reference information may not reflect the latest guidance. Always check what you learn against your coursework, faculty and trusted, current references.
3. Grades and exam preparation
Scores, grades, ratings, streaks, study plans and exam tips are practice tools. They are not an evaluation of your clinical competence, are not endorsed by any school or examining body, and do not predict your results on any course, clerkship, OSCE, shelf or licensing exam. We don't guarantee that using Rounds will improve any grade or exam score.
4. Who can use Rounds
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. Rounds is built for medical students and other learners in health care. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in method and device secure, for the accuracy of your account details, and for everything that happens under your account.
5. Never enter real patient information
Rounds is not designed to hold protected health information. Don't type, say, scan or upload any real patient's name, record, image, or other health information, or anyone else's personal information. If you do, you are solely responsible for it, including under privacy laws such as HIPAA and your school's or hospital's rules.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of what you put into Rounds, such as your questions, answers, voice, notes and scanned text ("Your Content"). You give us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, process, transmit and display Your Content only as needed to run and improve the Service for you, including sending it to our AI and voice providers as described in the Privacy Policy. You confirm you have the right to share Your Content.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for real patient care, or to give medical advice to anyone;
- break, overload, probe, reverse engineer, or get around the security, limits or access controls of the Service;
- try to make the AI produce harmful, hateful, sexual or illegal content, or extract its instructions, answer keys or grading rules;
- copy, scrape, resell or republish cases, grading or other content in bulk, or use them to build a competing product or train AI models;
- share your account, or let others use your subscription;
- break any law, or anyone else's rights.
We may remove content, limit use, or suspend or close accounts that break these Terms.
8. Subscriptions, free trials and payment
- Some features need a paid subscription (weekly, monthly or yearly plans), bought in the app through Apple. The price and length of each plan are shown before you buy, and payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and length unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Free trials. If a plan includes a free trial, it becomes a paid subscription when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Any unused part of a trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Managing and cancelling. Manage or cancel in your iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds. Apple handles billing and refunds under its own terms. Request a refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it with Apple too.
- A subscription belongs to the Rounds account that bought it. We may change prices or plans for future periods; Apple will tell you before a price increase applies to you.
9. Our content and license
The Service, including its cases, grading, design, software, text and the Rounds name and logo, belongs to Rounds or its licensors and is protected by law. We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, for your own study, while you follow these Terms and the App Store's Usage Rules.
10. Third-party data and services
The Service uses publicly available data from the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, including MedlinePlus, RxNorm and Clinical Tables, and drug labeling from openFDA. NLM and the FDA are not responsible for the Service and do not endorse or recommend it or any other product. Rounds is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any medical school, licensing board, or examining organization. Third-party services (such as Apple, Google, and our AI and hosting providers) are governed by their own terms.
11. Changes and availability
We may change, add or remove features, cases or content, and the Service may sometimes be unavailable or contain errors. If we change these Terms in a significant way, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new Terms.
12. Ending your account
You can stop using Rounds at any time, and delete your account in the app under Profile → Settings → Delete account. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering the Service. Sections 1–3, 6, 9 and 13–17 survive after your account ends.
13. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, ROUNDS DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY CASE, FINDING, GRADE, FEEDBACK, FLASHCARD OR REFERENCE INFORMATION IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT, OR SUITABLE FOR ANY CLINICAL USE, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.
14. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, ROUNDS AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS AND LICENSORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR: (A) ANY DIAGNOSIS, MISDIAGNOSIS, MISSED DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT, OR OTHER CLINICAL OR HEALTH DECISION ABOUT ANY REAL PERSON, OR ANY INJURY, ILLNESS, OR DEATH RELATED TO IT, WHETHER OR NOT IT WAS INFLUENCED BY THE SERVICE; (B) ANY EXAM, COURSE, OR CAREER OUTCOME; OR (C) ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOST PROFITS, DATA OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR ROUNDS IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND US $50. SOME JURISDICTIONS DON'T ALLOW CERTAIN EXCLUSIONS OR LIMITS, SO SOME OF THESE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU; IN THAT CASE THEY APPLY TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED.
15. Your responsibility
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Rounds and its owners, employees and contractors from claims, losses and costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service to make any decision about a real person, Your Content, or your breach of these Terms or of any law.
16. Disputes
If you have a problem with the Service, please email us first at [email protected]; most issues can be settled quickly that way. These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where Rounds is based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
17. Apple
These Terms are between you and Rounds only, not Apple. Rounds, not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Rounds, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims, and for any claim that the app infringes a third party's intellectual property. You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
18. General
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Rounds about the Service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don't enforce a part right away, we haven't waived it. You may not transfer these Terms; we may transfer them as part of a merger, sale or reorganization.
