Privacy Policy
Rounds is a study app for medical students: you interview fictional AI patients, order tests, make a diagnosis and get feedback. This policy explains what information Rounds collects, why, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Rounds. Questions: [email protected].
The short version: we collect what's needed to run your account and your practice cases. We don't sell your information, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites. You can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
Every patient is fictional. Don't enter real patient information.
Rounds is for education only. All patients in Rounds are made up. Never type, say or scan information about real patients, or your own private health information, into Rounds. Rounds is not a medical device and doesn't give medical advice.
What we collect
| Information | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address, name, how you signed in (Apple or Google), profile photo if you add one | To create and secure your account and show your profile |
| Study preferences | Exam goal, study focus, specialty, app settings | To pick patients for what you're studying |
| Onboarding answers | What you told us when you started: your year, exam goal and date, why you downloaded Rounds, what you want to practice, how sure you feel about your diagnoses, how often you blank, when you like to study, and how you heard about Rounds | To set up your study plan and to understand who uses Rounds and why, so we can improve it. We never sell these answers or use them for ads |
| Your practice | Questions you ask patients, exams and tests you choose, your diagnoses and plans, scores, ratings, streaks, badges | To run each case, grade it, and track your progress |
| Flashcards and notes | Cards you create, and text read from notes you scan or upload to make cards | To build and keep your decks |
| Voice (only if you use voice mode) | A short recording of each question you ask out loud, turned into text | So you can ask questions out loud and hear the patient answer |
| Subscription | Your plan, its status and renewal date | To give you access you've paid for |
| Subscription screen activity | Which subscription screen you saw, what you tapped on it, and basic device details (model, iOS version, language, region) and the exam you said you're studying for, linked to your account ID | To show the right plans and improve the subscription screen |
We do not collect your payment card details. We don't use advertising identifiers or track you across other apps and websites, and we don't collect your location or contacts. The only usage measurement is on the subscription screen, described above.
How your information is processed
- Patient conversations and grading use AI. When you talk to a patient or finish a case, the relevant text (for example your question or your diagnosis) is sent to a third-party AI service to write the patient's reply or the feedback. That service processes and may store this text under its own privacy policy, and does not use it to train its models. When you make flashcards, the text they're made from (for example your notes) is sent to a different AI service, which processes and may store it on servers in the People's Republic of China, under its own privacy policy. We send only the text needed for each request, never your email address or name.
- Voice mode records each question you ask out loud and sends the recording to a third-party speech service to turn it into text. The patient's reply is sent to that service to be spoken in a natural voice. Your iPhone's speech recognition also shows your words on screen as you talk, and may send audio to Apple (see Apple's privacy policy). Recordings are not kept by Rounds, and the speech service does not use them to train its models. Voice mode is optional; typing works without it.
- Scanned notes are read into text on your device. Only that text is sent to make cards. The photo itself stays on your device.
- Medical reference lookups (diagnosis search, medicine names and "learn more" reading) send the search words, not who you are, to public U.S. government medical reference services.
Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers that run Rounds, and only what each one needs:
- Cloud hosting (accounts, data and file storage, in the United States)
- AI services (patient replies, grading, flashcards and voice, described above)
- Email delivery (account emails, such as your welcome email)
- Apple (Sign in with Apple, in-app purchases, speech recognition) and Google (Sign in with Google, if you choose it)
- Subscription screen service (shows the subscription screen and measures how it's used, as described above; it never receives your payment details)
- Website hosting (this website)
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of our users or Rounds.
Payments
You subscribe in the app, and Apple processes the payment under its own privacy policy. We receive only your plan, its status and its dates.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, practice history, scores, flashcards and badges from our systems. Copies in backups are removed as those backups expire. Apple keeps its own records of purchases as the law requires. Text already sent to an AI service is kept under that service's policy.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account: in the app, go to Profile → Settings → Delete account. This removes your account and data.
- See or correct your information: your profile and progress are in the app. For a copy of your data, or to correct something you can't change yourself, email us.
- Notifications are optional. Turn them off in Settings in the app or on your iPhone.
- Voice mode, the microphone and the camera are optional. Rounds asks before using them, and you can turn them off in your iPhone's Settings.
Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have rights to know, access, correct or delete your personal information, and not to be discriminated against for using them. We don't sell or share personal information as those laws define it. To make a request, email [email protected]. We'll answer within 30 days.
Security
Information travels over encrypted connections. Your data is protected by access rules so that only you can see your own account. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a unique email account and keep your device locked.
Age
Rounds is for medical students and isn't intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
